Kickboxing started in the U.S during the 1970's when American karate practitioners became frustrated with strict controls on martial arts competitions that didn't allow full contact kicks and punches. Many questions were raised when the sport began about the high risk of injury. As a result, safety rules were improved and protective wears put into place. The sport has undergone changes and been refined during the last two decades.

Steelheel Kickboxing Academy operates as the largest kickboxing and M.M.A club in belfast. With association to the World International Martial Arts Association and Organisation, AMA, Wako Pro and the World Combat Organization.

'Steelheel Kickboxing Academy' welcomes all who wish to learn self defence, freestyle kickboxing techniques and mixed martial arts classes are designed to suit all, from the beginner to the advanced martial artists. Knowledge and understanding of methods used is provided within all clubs and correct techniques have produced top quality fighters within our dojo's.

Each student will have the opportunity to grow in their ability by taking part in gradings held every 3 months. We have designed our own syllabus which allows even beginners the opportunity to learn techniques used by the black belt in the aim to allow each student to rapidly progress through each grading level.  We teach students from age 4+ and have shaped our juniors to the most outstanding levels in such a short period of time. We believe in rapid progress and do not wish to hold any student back in the learning curve, our adult classes will teach even the beginner amazing style and technique and each student will be amazed at their own ability.

Steelheel Kickboxing Academy operates under the Amateur Martial Association and WAKO Pro the largest Martial Arts Association and Organisation Worldwide and also legislate under the World International Martial Arts Association & Organisation. The Cheif Executive Officer Sensei Nigel McClure is also a director for the World Combat Organisation in control of all operations throughout Ireland, World Modern Kickboxing Organization and the world kickboxing league. The Academy now trains in Mixed Martial Arts, both in its Greyabbey and Belfast based MMA clubs teaching Muay Thai, Full Contact Kickboxing styles, Jujitsu and mixed Martial Arts competition.
